Marnix Wells
Marnix Wells graduated in classical Chinese at Oxford under Professor David Hawkes in 1967.
In 1968, at the height of the Vietnam war and China's "Great Cultural Revolution", he arrived in Hong Kong and began to practice taijiquan, Chinese calligraphy and musical instruments. Since Beijing was then in turmoil, Marnix travelled to Taiwan, Japan and Korea. During this period Marnix studied with some of China's most respected internal martial arts instructors such as the legendary Wang Shujin in Taiwan.
He became general manager of a shipping office and helped plan the "Way of the Warrior" feature on the Hong brothers of Taipei for the BBC.
In 2001 Marnix earned a PhD in Ancient Chinese Philosophy from SOAS, London University. He teaches internal martial arts and lectures widely on Chinese art, music and philosophy.
He believes strongly in the Eastern philosophy viewpoint of health and fitness, which is mainly emphasis on acquiring new or improved physical skills, which in doing so leads to improvements in health.
Marnix has recently had his first internal martial arts book published titled "Scholar Boxer". He is currently busy writing his second book.
