Another ancient training tool making a comeback is the Kettlebell. The Kettlebell looks like a cross between an old fashioned kettle and a cannon ball with a thick handle on it. The handle being above the weight acts like a hinge which makes it much harder to control than a dumbell or a barbell as the weight is always pulling away from the hands. They have been eagerly embraced by the military, athletes and fighters worldwide due to their efficiency for developing strength, muscle growth, fat loss, flexibility, muscular endurance and speed. Training times dont have to be extensive either, fifteen to twenty minutes is long enough for excellent results.
The Kettlebell Advantage
The ballistic movements of the kettlebell false the muscles of the body to fully integrate, causing deep core muscles to work equally hard in order to stabilise the whole body. The kettlebell actions builds terrific tendon and ligament strength. They can be used for the same exercises as dumbells and barbells and many more which are unique to the kettlebell. Cleans, presses, snatches and curls work the body much more fully when performed with a kettlebell because of the difference in distribution of weight.
History
Some historians believe the kettlebell dates back as far as 2000 years ago and was used by the Ancient Greeks and Gladiators. These were very basic kettlebells and were actually large iron kettles with either water, sand or earth in them. Other crude and advanced forms of kettlebell have been used throughout history in the Far East, particularly China and Russia. Apart from within Russia and Germany, kettlebells disappeared decades ago but as Russian coaches and athletes spread their knowledge around the globe, they have returned to create a huge following.
